Christopher J. Contreras, PhD, works with Andrew Templin, PhD, to investigate cellular mechanisms that underlie the relationship between islet immune responses and beta cell death in diabetes.
Prior to working at the Indiana Biosciences Research Institute, Contreras was a postdoctoral fellow at the Indiana University School of Medicine in the Herman B. Wells Center for Pediatric Research. There, he was investigating the role extracellular vesicles play in beta cell signaling, mechanisms involved with extracellular vesicle cargo loading, as well as the potential for extracellular vesicles as biomarkers for diabetes.
