Michael Harrington served as senior vice president and general counsel for Eli Lilly and Company and as a member of the company’s executive committee from January 2013 until his retirement in early 2020.
Prior to taking the senior vice president and general counsel position, Harrington served as vice president and deputy general counsel, global pharmaceutical operations. In this capacity, he was responsible for legal issues related to Eli Lilly and Company’s five global business units (Animal Health, Bio-Medicines, Diabetes, Emerging Markets and Oncology). Harrington served in several other business and legal positions with Eli Lilly and Company including managing director of Eli Lilly New Zealand and as general counsel for Eli Lilly and Company’s operations in the Asia Pacific region.
Born in Evanston, Ill., Harrington received his bachelor's degree in English in 1985 from Albion College. He received his law degree from the Columbia University School of Law in 1988. Prior to joining Eli Lilly and Company, Harrington was a litigator at the law firm of Baker & Daniels (now Faegre Drinker) in Indianapolis.
Harrington serves on the boards of Elanco Animal Health (NYSE-ELAN), the Indiana Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association (Vice Chair) and the Indiana Repertory Theatre (past Chair). He is a member of the Business Advisory Board of Concarlo Therapeutics and serves on the Leaders Council of Legal Services Corporation. He is the former chair of the Albion College Board of Trustees and former member of the boards of the National Center for State Court, the Leadership Council for Legal Diversity, Lawyers for Civil Justice and the United Way of Central Indiana.
